Dabaris make top 6 under caretaker coach

The Gas Resources Central Dabaris have won five consecutive games to move up the 6th place of the Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup ladder under the lead of caretaker coach, Solomon Kuluniasi, after defeating the Asila Whagi Tumbe with a 10-4 full time score of the round 12 match at the National Football Stadium on Sunday, June 30th, 2024.

Solomon Kuluniasi stepped in as the caretaker coach, replacing Steven Gunua. Kuluniasi stated that he had not changed the team that Genua had assembled.

“Our coach Steven left us, but he is the one that has put together the team and I’m just caretaking. He put the systems in place, putting the players together and setting the culture. I’m just going to do my best and hopefully will continue as the result picks in,” Kuluniasi said.

He went on to commend the former coach Genua for putting the team together and making his job easier.

“Right now, I am very comfortable with the crop of players that we have and I’m grateful for the former coach Steve for putting up this roster,” he credited Gunua.

Meanwhile, after the Dabaris victory over the Tumbe, Kuluniasi said he wasn’t happy with the score margin but he was glad to get the 2 points.

“I told the boys at the start of the game, we have to turn up and be serious. There were a few things we didn’t do, such as not starting strong. We fumbled our way to victory, but would have to up our game when we take on big teams like the Mioks, Gurias, etc. We have to be clinical against small teams to set up our confidence for the big teams,” the veteran trainer and interim coach stated.

The Dabaris will take on the ENB Agmark Gurias in round 13 on Sunday, July 7th, at Santos the National Football stadium in Port Moresby.
