Crusaders bagged first title under a Female Coach

The Crusaders have smashed the Credit Corporation Harlequins with a 23-10 victory in the Pepsi Capital Rugby Union A-Grade Grand Final to claim the Cup at the Santos National Football Stadium on Saturday (19th of August).

Both teams went toe-to-toe in the first half. They launched themselves to the pitch and threw everything they had in the tank at each other in the first 40 minutes of the contest. They truly set the stage for the ensuing finals by lighting up the atmosphere.

Harlequins boasted a strong forward pack, but that did not intimidate the determined Crusaders. Crusaders slotted two successful penalty conversions and Harlequins scored a try, leaving the half-time scores at 6-5. The eventual premiers (Crusaders) took a 1-point lead over Harlequins at the break.

Second half was a one-way traffic contest, as Crusaders dominated ball possession and field territory. Though Harlequins were the first team to score in the second stanza, Crusaders responded and scored 3 unanswered tries and put Harlequins to sleep.

In their club’s history, Crusaders have never won a premiership, starting from Premier Grade all the way down to the Under 19 Division, since its establishment some ten-plus years ago. Alas, they ended their premiership drought over the weekend. The hoodoo has finally been broken.

The Crusaders cruised comfortably and sailed over the finish line with ease to claim their maiden premiership under the mentorship and coaching of a female coach, and etched their names into the annals of CRU competition.
