PNG’s Ali Tony brutally knocked out Turkey’s Baris Kalic in round 1 in the 66kg bout of the World Kickboxing Championship hosted by the PNG Kickboxing Federation (PNGKBF) on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, at Rita Flynn Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
Tony has been involved in kickboxing since 2012, but has never won an international fight. However, last Saturday was a memorable night for the rising star, who flipped the script and etched his name into the PNG Kickboxing Federation archives with a maiden title.
The Southern Highlander was entertaining the fans with his ferocious punch and dominated his Turkish opponent, expressing satisfaction with his victory.
“My hard work, sacrifice, and determination since 2012 have paid off tonight. This is my first international belt, so I’m very happy,” Tony said.
He lost his father when he was a small boy, and his mum played the role of both parents to raise him and his siblings. His late dad and mum were the motivation for him to keep fighting and making them proud, so he dedicated the win to his parents.
Tony also thanked the sponsors and PNG Kickboxing Federation President Stanley Nandex for hosting the world event in PNG, which allowed the local fighters to showcase their skills against some of the best fighters in the world.
The brawny Mendi native said he would continue to train and prepare himself for upcoming kickboxing events both in PNG and abroad.
