Papua New Guinea sprint Queen Toea Wisil defended her Pacific Games title again at the 2019 16th Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa. The veteran sprint machine kept her head-up in a sweep clean win in women’s 100m, 400m and 200m sprint to retain the prestigious medal. Flying Wisil was expected to end her career after the 16th Pacific Games has absolutely given us some pride before ending her successful career on high note. The four time Pacific Games sprinter beat her rivals in the first day of a women’s 100 meters sprint claiming Gold while finishing on 11.50 seconds in the morning qualifying heats in the medal race. Finishing second was Fiji’s Helenia Young who ran 11.82 seconds to claim the silver and PNG’s rising sprinter Leonie Beu finishing off in 11.94 seconds to collect bronze.

“Sport is not something that brings back richness but gives you the opportunity to find something better in life. For me, athletics gives me better life and travel around the world and meeting other athletes.
“For the younger generation, put education first then sports second,” Wisil said.
The Pacific Sprint Queen expressed herself quietly in 100m, 400m and 200m and won the medals that would be her memories before announcing her retirement.
But we have to wait and see when she calls her day and young Leoine Beu grow from strength to strength.
While on the other field and track events, PNG’s Simbai Kaspar achieved a memorable day after receiving Gold medal in the 3000m men’s steeplechase.
It was a clean sweep for the Team PNG that won Gold, Silver and Bronze. Chimbu’s Kaspar gone with Gold while countrymen Sapolai Yao got silver and Andipas Georasi bagged bronze.
