Port Moresby Hockey Association Kicks start 2022 Season

The Port Moresby Hockey Association (PHA) entered into its second weekend of preseason matches over the weekend (Sunday) at the Sir John Guise Hockey Pavilion.
The Preseason is an opener for the Association’s 2022 season that aims to get players back into games mood and to check in on player’s fitness and games skills.
Similar to other Sporting Association and organizations throughout the country and the world who have been severely impacted by the Global Covid 19 Pandemic. The PHA have halted their 2020 and 2021 seasons. There have not been any active games and competitions for the past two years.
The 2022 season is slowly picking up with the introduction of preseason tournament, that saw a total of 21 teams taking part, 11 men’s team and 10 women’s teams, in A and B Divisions, with the introduction of a junior division for ages five to 15.
Technical Officer and volunteer Theresa Potuan said, “basically the preseason tournament is to get teams back together and into games mood. The pitch has not been used in two years since the outbreak of Covid 19.and also to get players back into shape and ready for the 2022 season.”
The Preseason was an initiative by volunteers of each of the 10 clubs of the association, who came together to make the tournament possible.
The 2020 season will commence once the federation held its annual general meeting and elect its 2022 executives. In the meantime the tournament will continue till the end of March.
