The Kutubu Security Service sponsored Southern Flames maintained their dominance in the PNG Premier Men’s Basketball League with a 84-60 victory over Digaso Hornbills to claim their fifth consecutive minor premiers title. KSS Southern Flames are on fire after being the minor premier of the 2018 season, setting their eyes to win what will be their fifth consecutive Papua New Guinean Men’s Basketball League premiership. Since entering the premier basketball competition in 2014, they’ve maintained their supremacy by claiming both the premiership and the minor premiers for four consecutive seasons. Staying undefeated for this 2018 PMBL season sends out another clear message that history is set to repeat itself for another season. Since the beginning of the season, Southern Flames have maintained a healthy lead and are looking solid progressing into the finals play-off.
Southern Flames coach Moi Muri said discipline is what they’ve emphasised over the years, so the result has spoken for itself throughout the year. “My boys have been passionate about the game and respected me and the management well over the years of existence. “Flames club always emphasize on disciplining individual person and make them to become good basketball player and a good citizen of this nation,” Moi said. Furthermore he said aim of the team Southern Flames this season is to win this remaining games so that the boys can enjoy themselves and maintain their supremacy. “But most of all we want to maintain Flames as a champion teams in the PMBL and to let rest of the team to follow us. “Lastly, this is the last game before the final so I want to acknowledge our sponsor John Kapi-Natto and wife Vonnie for their financial assistant throughout the season,” Moi acknowledged.
